A birth doula is a professional labor assistant. Many doulas attend all different types of birth - epidural, cesarean, induction, home, and natural births (although, doulas sometimes reduce the need for some of these). Doulas provide information and special non-medical techniques to help a woman and her partner through labor and birth. A postpartum doula specializes in helping the new parents adjust to being a family unit. She can give breastfeeding assistance and help with baby care. It is important for mom and baby to get rest after and focus on bonding and a postpartum doula is great support for this!
